Elevate Your Career With A EWP Licence

A EWP licence can be incredibly difficult to obtain and for good reason. Anyone who has worked with elevating work programs has to do so with extreme care so that they don’t hurt themselves or anyone around them. However, to obtain a EWP licence Brisbane you need a Yellow Card which can be issued by EWPA — the national association for this industry. They were formed in the late 80s and therefore have plenty of knowledge on the subject. Therefore, the Yellow Card for the EWP licence can be considered a passing grade for applicants who wish to work in the industry. That being said, people may still not understand why it is necessary and what it actually does.

The first thing that people need to understand is that the EWP licence is subject to the Work Health and Safety Act 2011. This Act was declared in order to protect the health, safety, and welfare of people at work. This can differ from state to state. All states, however, also follow the Occupational Health and Safety Act of 2000. This Act has exact rules that must be followed by all companies all over the country. The act can include the following rules: Employers must provide information, instruction, training, and supervision to ensure safety for workers; manufacturers must ensure safe equipment and information about the conditions of the workplace and its equipment; and employees must co-operate with efforts to obey the OHS requirements. This Act is specific about the workplace itself and the responsibilities placed on employers and employees alike.

On the other hand, the WHS Act 2011 details a specific rule: Duties of a Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking, otherwise known as PCBU. Essentially, a PCBU must ensure the health and safety of workers while they are undertaking business. This is different from the OHS Act because there a particular onus on the individual tasked with the responsibilities. The PCBU must also ensure that work that is being carried out does not carry any risk to the health and safety of others. A EWP licence is particularly subject to this Act because of the sheer danger that is involved in the work of elevated work platform environments. There are many specific tasks which a PCBU must carry out and they include the following:

– Provide and maintain a safe work environment

– Provide and maintain safe plant and structures

– Ensure the safe use, handling, and storage of plant, structures, and substances

– Provide adequate facilities

– Provide instruction, training, information, and supervision

A EWP licence is very dependent on this Act. This is mainly because there must be proof that the operator has been trained sufficiently. A Yellow Card cannot be issued by the EWPA if they do not believe the proof has been supplied or demonstrated. Verbal instruction does not count as proof, due to the lack of physical evidence.
